#ReadIndie Review: Bound By Duty

Title: Bound By Duty
Author: Stormy Smith
Publisher: Perfect Storm Publishing
Release Date: July 24, 2014
Amelia grew up in a world of half-truths. She knows she's an Elder but has no idea what that means. Her father reminds her daily that she must maintain control but he refuses to explain why. Even worse, she's betrothed to the prince of the Immortals and she doesn't even know his name.

Finally breaking free to live a few normal years at a community college, the last thing Amelia expects is to find her best friend in a cheeky Southern girl and to fall for a self-assured human who sees her for who she is and not what she'll be.
As she learns more about herself, Amelia realizes the line between love and duty is a thin one. As her power continues to increase exponentially and her questions are slowly answered, Amelia must make the ultimate choice. The question is, will her head or her heart win the battle?

Amelia knows she's an Elder, but no one else can find out. If they do, the queen of the Immortals will most certainly find her and kill her. All her life, Amelia has been betrothed to the queen's son, and she doesn't know why or how she can avoid marrying him.  She doesn't even know the prince's name! Amelia doesn't know why no one will tell her how to control her powers, only that she must. And she certainly doesn't know why her father is so distant with her one minute and then exploding at her the next.

As Amelia navigates her way through college classes and falling in love, unknown people begin to come after her. Something even darker than she realized must be happening.

This book has everything I like. It has romance (yes please!), some action, magic, and royal betrothals. Okay, so I figured out all of the twists fairly early on. But that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I could not read it fast enough.

My favorite thing to watch as I read are characters. And I absolutely loved them in this book. The main character is tough, the love interest isn't exactly what you would expect, and all of the other characters have a depth to them you don't see coming. Bethany was hilarious, and Micah was not at all what I thought he was. The two of them have so many hidden layers to them, and then of course we have Aidan, the boy that Amelia just cannot stay away from.

So much happened plot-wise, it's hard to keep track! But even though I was able to predict almost everything, I wouldn't call the book predictable (I just have a knack for it, what can I say?). I personally cannot wait to read the next installment.

Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
