Do you like Fantasy?  Do you like romance?  Do you read YA novels?  Then I have a book for you!

Gates of Thread and Stone (Gates of Thread and Stone #1)Title: Gates of Thread and Stone
Author: Lori M. Lee
Publisher: Skyscape
Release Date: August 5, 2014

In a city of walls and secrets, where only one man is supposed to possess magic, seventeen-year-old Kai struggles to keep hidden her own secret—she can manipulate the threads of time. When Kai was eight, she was found by Reev on the riverbank, and her “brother” has taken care of her ever since. Kai doesn’t know where her ability comes from—or where she came from. All that matters is that she and Reev stay together, and maybe one day move out of the freight container they call home, away from the metal walls of the Labyrinth. Kai’s only friend is Avan, the shopkeeper’s son with the scandalous reputation that both frightens and intrigues her.

Then Reev disappears. When keeping silent and safe means losing him forever, Kai vows to do whatever it takes to find him. She will leave the only home she’s ever known and risk getting caught up in a revolution centuries in the making. But to save Reev, Kai must unravel the threads of her past and face shocking truths about her brother, her friendship with Avan, and her unique power.

This is not a review.  I love this book and want you to read it.

Why I love Gates of Thread and Stone
This book is completely different from a lot of the other YA fantasy I've read.  It's dark and magical.  But it's also got a steampunk vibe to it.  There is also a romance that I cannot get enough of.

There is mystery throughout the book.  Who took Reev?  And what do they want with him?  Even more mystery: what is going on with Avan?

Kai can manipulate time.  It's a unique twist on the now-so-popular time travel genre.  And it's very cool.  Want to replay the day?  She can do it.  Want to make things go faster?  She can do it.  But why can she do these things?  People aren't born with magic, so why does she have these mysterious abilities?

Basically, I love everything about this book.  Right down to the cover.

Why you should totally read this
If you like YA fantasy you should read this.  If you love your fantasy with a few weird quirks and twists, you should read this.  If you like something dark and rich, read it!  If you like a genre benders, this book is for you.

If you like a romance that doesn't take over the plot, this book is for you.  If you want your YA to have heavy themes, definitely try it.

One last reason to read this?  If more people pick it up, maybe the publisher will decide to publish the third book in the series! It's still not official -cries-
