Review: Consider by Kristy Acevedo

Consider (Holo, #1)Title: Consider
Author: Kristy Acevedo
Publisher: Jolly Fish Press
Release Date: April 19, 2016

As if Alexandra Lucas’ anxiety disorder isn’t enough, mysterious holograms suddenly appear from the sky, heralding the end of the world. They bring an ultimatum: heed the warning and step through a portal-like vertex to safety, or stay and be destroyed by a comet they say is on a collision course with earth. How’s that for senior year stress?

The holograms, claiming to be humans from the future, bring the promise of safety. But without the ability to verify their story, Alex is forced to consider what is best for her friends, her family, and herself.

To stay or to go. A decision must be made.

With the deadline of the holograms’ prophecy fast approaching, Alex feels as though she is living on a ticking time bomb, until she discovers it is much, much worse.

I haven't been reading much science fiction lately, so when I got the craving I picked this up.

This book asks a lot of important questions.  If there were an apocalypse going on, what would you do?  If you knew the world was ending, but you thought there might be a way out, would you leave everyone you know and love for a possibility at a new life?  Or would you stay and risk dying?

Alexandra has to make decisions quickly, even though she likes having all of the information.  When holograms pop out of vertexes all across the world announcing the earth's destruction in a few months, there isn't much that can be done.  But that doesn't stop everyone from trying.

I loved how Acevedo captured how debilitating general anxiety disorder can be.  So many people don't understand, think it's just fear and worry and you're overreacting.  But it's not.  When almost anything can give you a panic attack, it's not fun.  Her portrayal was so realistic, it actually made me cringe a few times.

The pacing was excellent and the characters were wonderful.  While I was pretty sure I knew what was going to happen in the end, I was still plenty surprised by lots of things along the way.

Overall
This was a really enjoyable read with a killer ending.  I can't wait for the next book to come out.  If you like alternate realities/parallel universes, give this a shot.
