It's November! You know what that means. Writing, writing, and more writing. Now that the first week of NaNo is almost over, I'd like to share an update on my progress.
I had decided just before the start of November to work on two different projects. I had a shiny idea that I couldn't get out of my head, and so I wrote a bit on it. Okay, well that was enough to let me focus (for now) on Iron Curse. As it stands this moment, I've written just over 13k words this month. Crazy, right? And only like 500 of those were from that second novel. I'll still work on it, but I would really like to focus on Iron Curse.
So, I'm nice and ahead of schedule at the moment. But what problems do I have?
Well, I had thought this novel would take ~90k words. I'm ~19k in and I feel like I'm halfway there. I will need to go back through and reread to see what I'm missing. I'm not the best when it comes to world building, so I'm sure there is some stuff for me to add.
How is your NaNoWriMo going? Are you participating?
WOW! I'm so jelly of your progress. I was kind of working on a WIP (Basically I had written chapter 1 in July but never got further and decided to use that story for NaNo) but I'm struggling. I think I need to completely change my characters and it's a struggle to not go back and edit how they are in the first 5000 words I wrote for nano and still change them. /sigh. I will not let my inner editor out but it's SUCH a struggle. Esp since I'm like 4000 words behind. You're doing amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteWell done for getting so stuck in!!! I'm more of a reader/editor than a writer, so I've accepted that NaNoWriMo is more of a cheerleading month for me. :P
ReplyDeleteI think things to look at for new authors in general are making sure you add bits of world-building interspersed with the dialogue and action, rather than setting dumps at the start of each scene. I don't know if that applies to you, but it's something I've noticed while doing beta-reading.
Thanks! I'll try to keep that in mind while writing. It can be a struggle with me for world building so any tips are welcome :)
