It's all fun and parties until someone falls in love in this modern fairy tale from author Kate Evangelista.
Caleb desperately needs a fake girlfriend. Either he attends a series of parties for his father’s law firm with a pretty girl on his arm, or he gets shipped off to Yale to start a future he’s not ready for and isn’t sure he wants. And sadly, the last unattached girl in his social circle has just made the grievous mistake of falling in love with him. Fortunately, Didi, recently fired waitress and aspiring painter, is open to new experiences. As the summer ticks by in a whirl of lavish parties, there’s only one rule: They must not fall in love!
Sometimes you just need a cute contemporary to lighten your mood. For me, this was just that.
From the very beginning, there is a lack of seriousness from the two main characters. Especially Didi: an artist-turned-waitress whose mom works all the time just to keep the electricity on.
It's apparent from the very beginning that Didi has some problems other than money. She takes pills for anxiety, depression, mania, and sleep. That's really rough. It gets rougher when she decides to get rid of any side effects her meds might have on her creativity so she can paint. This, of course, does not have the desired effect.
Even though No Love Allowed has its fair share of "issues", it's still fairly cute and light. It's a good mix of dark and fluffy, making it very enjoyable. I loved seeing Didi and Caleb's relationship develop. And Caleb's relationship with his cousin was so sweet. It just makes me more excited to read the next book.
Overall
I really enjoyed it. I didn't quite love it, but I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel. If you're wanting something light, definitely give it a go!
Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
