Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Kaz's crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

So I read this one in a bit of a different manner. Usually, I listen to audiobooks while I'm driving or at work. But since I was off work, I decided to read my hardcover along with the narration.  There was so much hype around this book.  And my mind is blown.

First I want to talk about each of the narrators (there are seven of them).  Mainly, would I listen to them again?

Tristan Morris - Joost
This poor narrator only had one chapter to narrate!  That's okay.  He did an excellent job.  There are so many times with audio narrators that I'm not enthralled.  But I quite enjoyed his voice and his different accents.  He also did different voices very well, making him someone I would go back to again and again.

Lauren Fortgang - Inej
Inej was one of my favorite characters to listen to.  Hell, I loved reading her scenes too.  She was a super interesting character, but the narrator really brought her to life.  I would definitely listen to Lauren Fortgang narrate other stories.

David Ledoux - Kaz
I've listened to this narrator before.  He read the Sam chapters in Shiver.  He's not my favorite narrator, but I don't particularly dislike him.  He did a decent job as Kaz, and I would listen to other things he narrated.  I wouldn't go out of my way for it though.

Elizabeth Evans - Nina
If you listened to the ToG audiobooks, you know this narrator.  She's wonderful and has a rather witty and sassy sound to her voice.  I haven't listened to anything else by her, but I loved her performance.  She brought the perfect amount of sass to the part of Nina.

Brandon Rubin - Jesper
Overall, the cadence of his voice was quite pleasant.  The issue that I took with him was that he didn't do any different "voices" for the different characters, making it confusing and sometimes a bit boring.  I oftentimes found myself reading ahead of the narration during the Jesper chapters.  And gosh there were a lot of Jesper chapters.  Honestly, I wouldn't listen to this narrator again.

Jay Snyder - Matthias
Oh his voice was so dark and deep I was almost lulled to sleep by it.  Not in a bad way of it being boring!  I mean it was just so soothing and relaxing lol.  I enjoyed him.  I don't know that I would search him out, but I wouldn't exclude any books he narrated.

Roger Clark - Pekka
Another narrator that only had one chapter.  He did a phenomenal job.  I love his voice and the amount of inflection he used.  He did excellent at making different voices.  And I would love to hear more from him.

Okay, so for the story itself.

I don't really feel like writing a full review.  But I will say that I enjoyed actually reading this more than listening to it, mostly due to one or two narrators I didn't enjoy so much.  Either way, it was still an excellent story and I can't wait to get my hands on the next.

Reasons you should read Six of Crows
1 - You like shipping people - There are so many ships in this book, my heart was constantly full of joy to see people getting pushed together into awkward situations.
2 - You like to stay guessing - There is never a dull moment.  Bardugo has you guessing at what is going on to what will happen next from the very beginning.
3 - You like dark fantasy - Well yea.  It's part of the Grishaverse so it's pretty dark!
4 - You liked the Grisha Trilogy - Um yes?  If you liked Bardugo's other series in the same world, you will love this one!  It's even better.

Honestly, I could go on and on listing reasons.  So really, you should just read this book.

Overall
Would I recommend the audiobook?  Absolutely.  It was quite enjoyable, especially if you have a long car trip or whatever.  Most of the narrators were great.  But, I enjoyed reading the book myself to the audio.

  1. OOoh nice! I still need to read this one myself! I've had it since it released and sigh...so behind! But it's a duology right? Maybe it'll be better to just binge it later this year! LOL! This has become my reasoning for nearly all my series lately! Nice review!

    1. Yes it is a duology! It's the same reasoning I told myself for waiting so long to read this as well. I had it preordered as well, so I'm glad I read it finally. I just really need the next book haha

  2. I didn't know they did different voices for the different characters! I rather enjoyed the book and may have to pick up the audiobook just to hear the talent!
