Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

For this week's theme, I'm doing top five of my most recent disappointing reads.  AND top five best recent reads.

So here we go.

Top Five Disappointing Reads

Into the Dim (Into the Dim, #1)
I DNF'd this one really early.  Couldn't relate or even care for the main character.

Stone Field
Somehow, I made it about halfway through before I DNF'd.  Just couldn't handle the insta-love.

Firstlife (Everlife, #1)
The main character drove me insane.  I just wanted to scream at her half the time.

Ignite (Defy, #2)
This entire series bugs me.  I'm not sure if I'll continue on with the third book, but the thing that bugged me most here was the ending.  There was no sense of closure or having even accomplished anything.  You can't just end a book like that.

Crimson Bound
I can't even say why this was disappointing, because I didn't dislike it.  It just didn't meet my expectations after having read Cruel Beauty.  It was just meh.

Top Five Best Recent Reads

The Winner's Kiss (The Winner's Trilogy, #3)
There's so much hype around this book.  But it's such a great ending to the series, and I was a horrible wreck while reading from the very start.  It's a must-read if you like the series.

I couldn't find a graphic with the fourth book in it, which s unfortunate since it was my fav of all four. Oh well. As many may well know, I have recently become obsessed with this series. Try it!

Golden Son
Oh wow this book was good.  My copy of Morning Star just came in, and I can't wait to get to it.  Can't believe I put this one off for so long.

Tell Me Three Things
This book is everything a cute contemporary should be.

I like Poison Study the best of the three.  But definitely loved them.  Slowly working my way through the entire Chronicles of Ixia.

What books have you read and loved or hated recently?

  4. Squeeee, I'm about to start Morning Star actually! I AM SO EXCITED (and horribly nervous. ;P) Oh oh and Firstlife was awful, right?! I think Ten was SUPER irritating...gah. And I've only heard bad things about Into the Dim so I'm basically not touching that one ever. Here's my TTT!

  5. I almost DNF'd Into the Dim too. The ending was definitely the best part of the book but it was such a hard slog to get to the point where it improved. The main character was just so annoying I bet a lot of people will struggle with it. Sad to see Stone Field, Firstlife and Crimson Bound on your disappointed list, they're all on my TBR list, but I won't set my expectations to high...

    Happy Reading

  7. I really enjoyed reading your Top Ten List - I was interested to see that Crimson Bound was something of a disappointment as I've considering getting the series. And yes - I thoroughly endorse your enthusiasm for the Red Rising series - an amazing roller-coaster ride! I also loved the Study series, as well:). I haven't encountered the Marie Rutkoski series, but it looks interesting... This is my TT offering this week - a paranormal murder mystery - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/03/29/teaser-tuesday-29th-march-2016/

  9. I actually liked Into the Dim, which surprised me. I've seen quite a few people not enjoy Cruel Beauty so I have never even picked it up. Thanks for sharing you list.

  10. It's really disappointing to see Into the Dim and Stone Field on the disappointing end of the scale! They were two that I wanted to read, but I haven't heard good things about. I am about to start the Winner's Kiss, so PRAY FOR MY HEALTH. :)

  11. So many awesome books on your best reads list, these are ones I have either loved myself or am desperate to read. I am definitely going to be adding some of these to my already endless TBR, so thanks for the awesome recommendations!!! :) I am sad to see Into the Dim and Stone Field end on the disappointing end, as I am hoping to read those soon. Fingers crossed I am not too disappointed. Here's my most recent five star reads, if you want to check them out :)

  14. I've only read the first book in the Falling Kingdoms series but I really need to get on them! Love the covers and loved the first book. It's been a while since I read it, do you think I should re-read it first? I also need to read the Poison Study series. I just recommended it to a friend (because it sounded like what she was looking for) and she loved it! I've been pushing it off so I can binge read them over summer break, but I don't know if I should wait that long or just read them now.

    1. Hmm. You probably don't need to reread it. But it would likely be best if you read a recap since there are a lot of names and things that happen. Lots of stuff you could forget easily. I love the Study series! I'm working on the second series in the entire Chronicles of Ixia now, can't wait to get to the next book!

    2. Is there a particular order I should read all the series' in? I know published order is probably the best, but just curious.

    3. Definitely publication order. I supposed you could skip the Glass series if you wanted to (not totally sure on this), but I like her writing enough to read them all. The Chronicles of Ixia go: Study series (Poison Study, Magic Study, Fire Study), Glass Series (Storm Glass, Sea Glass, Spy Glass), Soulfinder series (Shadow Study, Night Study, Dawn Study).

  15. I hear such great thinks about Winners Kiss that i really can't wait to get to it in April!

I love that you included 5 disappointing reads, since so many books get mostly rave in book blogs, and i understand that but sometimes it is also nice to hear why people did not like book or which books they did not like, so thanks for that :)

    Great list :)
